While Christmas time is a season of festivities for many, there are many who are feeling lonely this time, more than any other time of the year. These are the people in orphanage and many elderly in the aged home. They need someone presence, especially if their loved ones are unable to come and visit them. We can make this holiday a meaningful one, by thinking of other people more than ourselves. By taking our children to these places it will be a eye opener to the real situation of the world. It will bring understanding to the reality of life and can make them realize that they are blessed with a happy family.

Visiting an orphanage can make a big difference to the children whom have been deprived of care and attention they supposed to experience in the presence of their parents. But since, they aren’t there, our presence can bring joy to them that one cannot imagine. Helping in feeding the children and telling them story can bring happiness to their rather monotonous life. Telling them stories about how life can be beautiful despite unhappy childhood can give them some hope. Christmas comes only once a year and making the orphans happy means a whole lot of difference to them. Knowing that other people come to share their blessings with them is rather touching. It gives them a renewed feeling that they are still important, loved and cared despite their condition.

Santa phone calls by a friend for orphans can be a fantastic experience for them. Take time in knowing them a bit personally. What they have been doing all year round, what are their wishes for Christmas and why Santa should give them a call on Christmas Eve. Through this you can ask a few friend for a personalized Santa call not just for one but a handful of children. If you can have more time yourself, you can pose as the Santa who can call and have a chat with the orphans.

Bringing gifts to the orphanage can be a heartwarming experience for our kids. Old clothes, especially the ones for winter, will be well appreciated. Let our children distribute the gifts and the goods to the orphans. It will teach them the real essence of Christmas is not all about receiving gifts but giving them as well.

Another group of people who can benefit from our kindness are the ones from the aged home. Life can get so lonely for them, especially if they forgotten by their loved ones. Volunteering to be on their side by feeding or assisting them to move around for a bit is one way of connecting with them. In return, you will see a glimpse of hope in their eyes. They may have been forgotten by some loved ones and friends, but knowing that there are people like us, can brighten up their day.

Santa calls and gifts are for orphans; and company for the elderly is simple things that you can share this Christmas. These are simple gestures that can bring joy that is priceless. Christmas presents do not have to be expensive and extravagant; what matters most is the thought that comes with it. There are many people who are letting the Christmas pass with loneliness, if we can make things a bit better for them; it will be an effort that will be worth remembering through many Christmas that will come.

You probably know a child in your neighborhood who will not get much for Christmas. There are several ways you can help a less fortunate child to have a more enjoyable Christmas. You can reach out to a family with children directly or take part in programs designed to make sure all kids receive some gifts for Christmas. If you have children of your own, you can teach them the value of helping other children in need at Christmas time.

A few guidelines:-

• Purchase one or more toys to give to the Orphanages. One does not need to purchase an expensive toy to help put a smile on a child’s face. If you have children, explain to them that you have purchased the toy(s) to bring joy to a less fortunate child.

• Participate in Christmas gift giving programs for children. Most churches have a list of children in need. Take part in the programs offered at the church. If you are not a member of a church, contact a church to learn how you can participate.

• Help a child in your own family. Buy extra gifts for the children of family members who are experiencing financial hardships.

• Reach out to a child in your community. Give a helping hand to a struggling family by buying food for a holiday meal. Also, ask neighbors or friends to help you gather enough money for presents for the children to enjoy.

• By talking to local businessmen in your area to sponsor a local family with children. This can be a joint effort with other members of your family, coworkers or friends. Try to find businessmen that are willing to donate money or the products needed. Work to ensure that the family can have a Christmas tree, decorations, presents and a Christmas meal.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR – GOD BLESS.
